If you answered yes, then our Accelerated Master’s program in Sociology and Data Analytics and Applied Social Research has been designed especially for you–our most interested and motivated undergraduate students.

Yes, there are great jobs you can get with a Sociology degree, especially when you also have the power of data at your fingertips. Currently, about half of our MA alumni are Queens College undergraduates. Today, they are successful research and analytics professionals. You can be, too.

Our Accelerated Master’s program allows you to get started on your graduate work while you’re still an undergraduate. You’ll spend an extra academic year with us, taking advanced courses and getting extra training, mentoring, and nurturing. When you’re done, we’ll send you out into the world with  in-demand data and research skills or help you take that next step to a doctoral program.

Jumpstart Your MA in Data Analytics and Applied Social Research

The Accelerated Master’s program will allow you to take four MA courses for joint credit toward both the Sociology BA and the MA in Data Analytics and Applied Social Research. The courses are:

–   One course, either: Sociological Theory or Substantive Topics in Sociology (e.g. Soc 701, Soc 702, Soc 728, Soc 736 or other courses with approval) (3 credits)

–   Soc 710 Basic Analytics (4 credits)

–   Soc 716 Professional Writing and Communication (3 credits)

–   Soc 754 Applied Social Research I (3 credits)

You can enroll in the program by completing a declaration form available in the Sociology Department.

Subject to capacity, requirements for admission to the joint program are a 3.5 GPA overall and a B+ grade or better in Soc 205 and Soc 334 or equivalent.

You will be eligible to receive your BA degree once you have completed all requirements for that degree, but you may opt out of the program at any time if you decide this program is not for you.  Once you enter the MA portion of the program, you will be subject to the rules for graduate students regarding minimum passing grades and GPA requirements.
